The City of Seattle has joined 32 state and local governments on the first-ever Buildings Performance Standards Coalition. The new organization was established to highlight the importance of enacting policies that support emissions reductions in new and existing buildings, with a goal of advancing legislation or regulation in each locality by Earth Day 2024. The state and local jurisdictions participating in the program comprise nearly 20% of the nation’s building footprint. One area of focus will be energy efficiency improvements and electrification in multifamily buildings.
