Seattle Pacific University’s (SPU) newest residence hall is a model for sustainable student living sweeping the campus

Opened for new and returning students in the autumn of 2014, the 74,794-square-foot, 76-unit residence hall was certified Gold under the LEED® for Homes Mid-Rise rating system. The students will benefit from this achievement through better comfort, indoor air quality, and creating a space to learn about their everyday impact on the planet.

O’Brien360 assisted the owner, design team, and the construction team through the LEED for Homes process and guided them on better performance for resource efficiency, unit compartmentalization, and durability of the building.

Identifying air leakage pathways during various stages of the design and construction phases, through on-site inspection and diagnostics, helped the project team achieve a higher level of airtightness that will assist the effectiveness of the ventilation and overall energy performance of the building. Many aspects of the direction that O’Brien360 provided for this project have been incorporated into SPU’s operations and upgrades throughout campus, thus building capacity for a more sustainable campus.
